Stay in San Diego, USA

Tourist Visa

Since the requirements to obtain a visa differ from country to country, we recommend that you to get in contact with the Mexican Consulate in your city. By doing this you will be able to get all the information you need, as well as the procedures needed to obtain a tourist visa. If you are an American citizen, beginning January 2008 you will need your US passport to travel to/from Mexico.

Accommodation

San Diego, CAIf you are travelling to Mexico and decide you would like to stay in the United States, you will need to fly into the San Diego International Airport, rent a car (optional), stay at a hotel, and cross the international border (approx. 20 miles south of downtown San Diego) between San Ysidro, CA and Tijuana, Mexico.

We recommend the following two hotels in San Ysidro. Both offer a shuttle service to and from our clinic:

OTIS

The San Diego Commute website offers a service on their website called OTIS (Online Transit Information System). OTIS helps you find how to get to places in San Diego County using their buses, trolleys, or trains. From the information you provide on the trip entry form, OTIS can generate up to four different trip plans, giving you up to four options to organize your trip. All trip plans are given on one screen so it's easy to scroll through all the options or to print all the options at one time.

Crossing the International Border

New! If you are driving to our clinic, there is now a "Ready Lane" which will usually allow a faster border crossing! (reduced to 10 minutes). Please contact us for more information.

Walking Across the Border

Crossing the border on foot is a simple, 3 minute process which involves walking through two large revolving gates separated by a walkway with a tourist information booth, money changers and travel agencies. You don't have to stop and go through immigration and customs until you cross the border into the US.

For more information, the About.com website offers a pictorial step-by-step guide showing you how to cross the US-Mexico border into Tijuana.

Once you've passed through the gates look for the yellow taxi cabs. Tell them you want to see Dr. Morales, corner of 6th and Mutualismo and they will take you to his practice.

Rental Car

If you choose to rent a car, you could drive to the international border, park at one of several paid parking lots on the U.S. side and walk across.

If you plan on driving your car into Mexico, you must buy Mexican automobile insurance before crossing the border. Most U.S. policies are not valid in Mexico. You will also need a tourist card and a temporary vehicle importation permit, which you can purchase at the border. For more information, please read the US Consular Information Sheet on Traveler's Checklist into Mexico.

Tourismo Express fka Mexicoach

The Tourismo Express fka Mexicoach is a bus shuttle service for tourists who want to visit Baja. They offer transportation to Tijuana. You can board the shuttle at the Border Station Parking or from the San Ysidro Trolley Station (Blue line last-stop) at the border between the USA and Mexico and exit at the Tijuana Tourist Terminal on Avenida Revolución. Please visit website describing it for more information on times and rates.

San Diego Trolley

The San Diego Trolley is another good alternative. Regular service is provided from downtown San Diego, and the trip takes approximately 45 minutes. San Diego Trolleys operate along two routes. You would need to take the Blue Line, which starts near Qualcomm Stadium and runs through Mission/Fashion Valley, Old Town, and Centre City San Diego to the International Border at San Ysidro. Greyhound Bus

The Greyhound bus lines offer daily service from San Diego to Tijuana. The Greyhound Bus Station is located in the heart of downtown San Diego, within walking distance of the Maritime Museum, Contemporary Art Museum, Children's Museum, Harbor Excursion cruises, Seaport Village, Horton Plaza, San Diego Convention Center and the San Diego Concourse.
